This is similar to the 4% rule many people live by who invest in the stock market, which says that when you reach retirement or financial independence, you sell off 4% of your portfolio each year and live off of that income. The 8% rule is similar, except you are living off of the income your portfolio generates rather than having to sell off pieces of it. Travis shares how he’s used this rule for the past eight years.
